I hope my fellow AAC colleagues will forgive me this post BUT>>>> BBC Children In Need has raised £32m in a single evening of media celebration. I think that is fantastic and will benefit a range of individual charities........ But where is the equivalent media evening of help for our Armed Forces. ?????? Heroes In Need.........2015. Back in the 70s a friend in my unit died in a helicopter crash. His wife was given just 4 weeks to pack, return to England and find somewhere to live.....As a wife of a serving soldier she was not individually entitled to forces accomodation... That was how callous the Army was to its Army Wives, back then. I remember being disgusted with her treatment.. I wonder how things are these days...hearing only last week that Widows pensions were not paid if the recipient found a partner to share their life with ...I know nothing has really changed... Royal British Legion, Help For Heroes, SSAFA, Corps and Regimental charities etc are simply brilliant but overstretched. There is no National fundraising evening on the Media.....why not... Lets get Lenny Henry visiting Forces families in distress. Lets highlight the reality of serving your country and being disabled. Suffering post traumatic stress disorder, ending up a drunk homeless on the streets of London.....thought a dirty scrounger...... The vast majority of the capitals homeless are thought to be ex- service......but no one cares.... Heroes In Need 2015......??????? Why not.
