IT TAKES A THIEF! {Remember we are in Illinois where 4 of our last 8 governors have been incarcerated!} Meet Jack Gold.- from May, 1976 He was in charge of the vendors who worked the annual auto show, at McCormick place. At least he was in 1979 which is the only year I ever worked this event. They were long days...12 hours for I think 8 days.... but I made over a grand in cash....great money! Monkey and I worked it along with around 6 other vendors. We sat in chairs and just sold programs. There were times when you werent busy, but had to stay at your post. Since Monkey...aka Steve Drexler and I had the least seniority, we sat in the worst spots....after the people had already passed one or two of the senior sellers. We lived near Jack in the Chicago neighborhood of Rogers Park. He told us hed take care of us if we would drive him to and from the event each day. So one day towards the end, he took us to breakfast and promised to buy ours. At the end of the meal, he told us to go ahead as he took the check and walked up towards the cashier. He stopped right behind a few people who were paying their Bill. And when they walked away after paying, we noticed Jack kept walking as if he were with them!
