I hope youll forgive (a) a long post and (b) being slightly off topic! (Gary, please delete if its not appropriate). This is a ghost town that never was. In 2003, developer Jim Rhodes started buying land in Golden Valley, Arizona. His plan was to build a 33,000 home community called Pravada in Mohave County (he also planned to build 211,000 homes at Red Lake, north of Williams) with shops, laundromat and a cinema. Rhodes was subsequently sued several times over land deals, by the Nevada Cancer Institute, was involved in a scandal over well sites owned by the city of Kingman and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009. Only two show homes were ever built at Pravada (along with a road which goes nowhere, bordered by now dead palms). They stood empty for years, yet they were still fully furnished and, amazingly, untouched. I took these photos in 2011. A year later Rhodes returned to Mohave County where he is now farming 640 acres in GV. Farm workers now live in the houses that were built as the vanguard of a new community that never happened.
