I join to vehemently opposed the establishment of a National Commission on Youth Development the House of Representatives Youth Ctte Public hearing on basis of the fact that the objectives for which the proposed Commission aim to attain is an absolute usurpation of the powers of the Ministry of Youth Devt. Secondly, there is a great need to cut down the cost of governance in Nigeria by reducing the number of agencies and bodies. Establishing another commission is tantamount to expanding the frontiers for bureaucracy. I feel we need to strengthen the Ministry of Youth Devt both in the character and competency of who is appointed as the Minister of Youth devt and scale up the budget of the youth ministry. I also join to advised the Ctte to focus her attention on performing her constitutional responsibility of oversight on the Ministry of youth devt, sponsor a bill to establish a youth development fund and a bill to properly classify or define a youth since the ongoing constitution review process jettisoned this recommendation as advocated by different youth groups. Appoint a young person with cognate experience in youth development as Minister of Youth Devt, you will see a turn around in the youth development sector that doesnt require the creation of a separate commission. Do we substitute the Ministry of youth devt with the Commission? I still join to Say No. The Minister is a member of the Federal Executive Council hence his ability to sit at their meetings and present memos of the youth ministry. The Chairman or Executive Secretary of a Commission does not attend FEC meetings. He/she prolly sends his memos through the SGF office and does not partake in the deliberations of FEC. #myRespectfulview I am very willing to defend my position on this matter also.
