I just arrived home from a most enjoyable day trip to Herkimer "Diamond" mines, where you take a mallet and hit rocks in the open pit for stones. Then we had a magnificent dinner and desert. We were able to sit on the beach for a while waiting for the cruise boat, a beautiful new one, to go us the Erie canal and learn quite interesting history of the construction and maintenance, plus some history of the town of Herkimer. Our captain and his crew were excellent. Great day. I needed it.
