I just came across this beauty, and cant recall seeing it enshrined in the Group... The Douglas XB-43 was the first American jet bomber. A conversion of the static test XB-42 “Mixmaster”, the “bug-eyed” bomber was overtaken by the swiftly advancing technology and did not go into production, but instead served as an excellent test bed at Edwards Air Force Base for many years under the nickname “Versatile II”. It is currently in the National Air and Space Museums Garber Facility. (Warren Bodie) Theres another a/c just behind the XB-43 in this photo, which adds a bit to the unusual silhouette.
