I just had a very disturbing conversation with someone, and it brought to my attention an issue some people have with my brand of photography. I thought that its best if I clear this up once and for all with everyone. Im going to post ten frequently asked question and their answers. Please refer to them before deciding to have an opinion on me. 1) What sort of Photographer are you trying to aim to be? A) Im aspiring to be an excellent commercial/fashion photographer. 2) Oh fashion? Youre just trying to meet pretty girls. A) No, not really. Fashion photography has a lot more artistic freedom in conceptualization. I want to be able to express myself while doing my job. 3) So it isnt about meeting pretty girls? A) No, Im interested in being professional. 4) What is this I hear about you saying that youre trying to display a persons true beauty? A) Fashion Magazines and Television today had greatly skewered the idea of beauty. Editorials use photoshop to alters the features of models to display perfection, but are completely unrealistic. People tend to judge themselves by what they see in these magazines. My job is to make them realize that they are beautiful without altering their features via photoshop. 5) Does that mean you dont use photoshop? A) I use it for color correction and compositing. I do not in any way alter peoples features in any way. I want to keep their beauty as natural as possible and encourage make-up and clothes as a way to enhance it. 6) Why do you do this? A) I do it because Ive seen how much harm this skewed perception does to people. I remember meeting a girl who modeled once for a famous clothing brand that shall not be named. She fell into depression once because even though she is very beautiful as a person, when they released the photographs they had used of her for an assignment, they reduced her waist because they considered her Too Fat and changed her jaw cause it wasnt feminine enough Ive also met people who are bullied for being ugly. Too many people actually. I was one of these people, while I was growing up. I want to change this perception if possible. 7) So who are the girls you shoot most of the time? A) Regular people who didnt perceive themselves as particularly beautiful. Some of them considered themselves as ugly because people bullied them for their weight, color of skin, caste, race, etc. 8) Why do we see more women than men in your pictures? A) Where I live, most men are particularly shy about this issue. They are less excited to having their picture taken because they are afraid of losing their masculinity. Ive met only few men who are secure about themselves enough to participate in my concepts. 9) So does this mean youre a feminist? A) I am an egalitarian. I believe that everyone should have equal rights regardless of gender, occupation, race and beliefs. So yes, I am feminist, but I work for more than just womens rights. 10) I love what you do! How can I help? A) I do a lot of commercial, professional work. You could help me by bringing actual opportunities and jobs. Id be happy to work. Every commercial gig that I get, allows me to do more of my charitable work. If you want, you can go and donate cash so that I can buy more equipment to do my job better. If youre talented in some way like hair, make up, whatever it is, contact me! I love the help.
