I just made a contribution to the Sojourner Project, which is a Twin Cities organization that provides emergency shelter for battered women and children and helps to empower them out of abusive situations. I was encouraged to do so from an unlikely source - an NFL pre-game show. Kudos to CBS announcer Jim Brown for calling on Men to do something about this most serious of issues. This is a small but substantive contribution that I choose to make, and I hope others - men and women alike - will think about what they can do as well. Whether its spending a little more time evaluating how we treat those around us regardless of their gender, whether its thinking about the language we use with respect to gender and the value baked in to those words, whether its making a financial contribution to a local shelter such as this one, or whether its something else, if we all spend a little time thinking and acting on the issue well all be better off.
