I just read a comment on APs news app that made me cringe. Being born black in America is like being born with a target. I am not diminishing the magnitude of what is happening in Missouri right, nor am I condoning it. Black people no more have a target on their backs than their white neighbors. If you are a lower class American (typing that phrase makes me nauseous) you are the target of multiple government agencies aimed at keeping you where you are. Why should you get a job when all of these benefits are readily handed to you? If youre a middle class American, you are still a target. Corporations are targeting you everywhere you go. Buy this; buy that; give us your money; you really need that new car, new tv, new phone. Its endless. Not only are you the target of incessant marketing, but the government is after your money as well. Work as much as you can in b the hopes of building success, but give us a chunk of your earnings because we need to support those who dont/cant/wont work. Were all targets. Were all people. Racism exists today because of ignorant people on both sides of the argument. Had it been a white male shot by a black cop nothing would be said. Had it been a white male shot by a Latin American cop nothing would be said. Im not making light of the situation, just shedding light on the obscure notion that racism is a one way street of action from Whites to Blacks. Ive met more than my fair share of racist people, black and white. No one is innocent in this issue.
