I just read that Harriman Park has eliminated this viewpoint over Skannatati -- one of the best, prettiest, and easiest to reach -- from the Arden-Surebridge trail: December 19, 2014: The Park has recently overseen trail changes at Lake Skannatati (the Trail Conference was not involved in this project). The first half-mile of the Arden-Surebridge Trail in Harriman State Park, beginning at the Lake Skannatati parking area, has been relocated. Instead of steeply climbing to the summit of Pine Swamp Mountain, the new trail follows a more gradual route around the side of the mountain and connects to the existing trail route at the northern end of the mountain. The relocation eliminates a viewpoint over Lakes Skannatati and Kanawauke from near the summit of Pine Swamp Mountain. It also results in a change in the western terminus of the Red Cross Trail, which has been shortened by about 0.2 mile.
