I just wanted to post about Hannahs title. I realize some of you - TopicsExpress

I just wanted to post about Hannahs title. I realize some of you may not know much about it. Hannah is a sophmore now and most of the colleges she is interested in attending are very expensive. Scholarships have been on my mind for both girls really. So in researching scholarship opportunities I came across a pageant. I will be honest, I was leery at first, thinking well, we will see how much it costs and go from there. She went to the first practice and it went well. She enjoyed it and made some new friends right away! But we still werent completely on board. And I kept waiting for them to ask me for a big fat check. She went again. Had a great time, and she was getting on board a little more than I. But everyone was so nice and friendly. I kept waiting for the bottom to fall out... The next week, again everyone was so nice, and now I was making friends. Now I was actually enjoying myself. And Kenni had to be dragged along, but when we left, she was asking if she could come along the next week! Pageant day was coming we had everything we needed. I kept hearing people talk about turning in their ads. I had no idea what they were talking about. Hannah signed up late, and so we had missed the orientation. I found out ads are how the Miss America Organization, ( yes this is a part of the actual Miss America Organization) raises money for the scholarships they give by having each contestant sell ads for their program. Thats it. It shouldnt cost the contestant any money. But the kicker was, again everyone we encountered was SO nice, and the director told us since it was so last minute, that we didnt have to sell any ads! But we did! Thanks to Nesha Shedd The Gold Refinery, Beth and Dirk Zeigler Insurance, LaCyne Pirnik Elness Cutiedoodles, and Myles Wiley X Sunglasses! Hannah was one of the contestants that sold the most ads! We have amazing friends! Anyway, Pageant Day came, and Hannah first participated in an interview panel with 4 judges, one of which was supposed to be Nina Koch but because of Hannah, she couldnt do it. Sorry Nina. Then she went on to the pageant where she performed a health and fitness routine, performed her talent, and walked in an evening gown (she looked like Cinderella) and did her onstage question. (Thankfully they didnt ask her about The Iraq) Finally, at the end they announced her name as the winner! Miss Contra Costa Countys Outstanding Teen!! WTH? We were not expecting that! And now she has been working hard with an interview coach, coming up with a new talent routine, and trying to build her platform. Originally her platform focused on dance for health, but now has been changed to Get To a The Heart of The Matter, Heart Health for all. Which still has a focus on movement for better health. And Hannah still plans to speak about how dance is her movement. Hannah was born with a heart defect, so this covers everything she is passionate about. She plans to start Jump Rope for Heart programs in some schools around Brentwood. She is also looking in to finding grants to provide AEDs in schools. Many in Contra Costa County already have these in their schools thanks to the Darius Jones Foundation. The Miss America organization also supports The Childrens Miracle Network and she will also be raising money for The Childrens Hospital of Oakland as well as volunteering some time there. Hannah has already worked at a booth selling doggie gear to raise money for pet rescue organizations, helped at a The Run for Education in San Ramon, volunteered at a Christmas Tree lot, among other things all over Contra Costa County since October! The moral is we werent going to do this and thought maybe it was silly and had preconceived ideas about pageants. We learned there are several types of pageants, and this one is very different than the ones portrayed on TV. Hannah has and continues to have a very positive experience! We are grateful to the Miss Contra Costa County, Miss California, and Miss America organizations and all of the support she is receiving from all of their volunteers! So far it has been a great experience, pushing Hannah to do more for her community, work harder in school, and on herself as a productive citizen! She is doing a great job, all while still commuting 1 hour each way to school, earning straight As, honors classes, taking a college level online course and dancing for 3-8 hours a day, 6 days a week! She tells me not brag, and I hope it doesnt sound like that is what I am doing. Mostly I just wanted to let you all know what all of this is about! (I guess it may sound a little like bragging in the last sentence, but I am so proud of her!). Thats my piece. Not sure how many of you will read the whole thing. But you can follow Hannahs journey on Instagram her name is MISSCONTRACOSTACOUNTYSOT If you did make it this far, thank you for caring. Please keep Hannah in you prayers for the next few months and encourage her when you see her! Thanks to wveryone who has already been doing this for her! . Thank you to her director Paula Gross and her Miss Angela Laird for being great mentors! and Nina who has been working with her on speaking. and thanks to Tony Moises whi has been helping her with interview skills.h
