I just wanted to share a little something with the community that I experienced on Monday morning that has stuck with me. I was at my local park on Monday, waiting for a friend to go for a walk. I noticed in the car park a group of people, all well over the hill in age, learning to ride a bicycle. There were six of them, all trying this new skill, one that I had mastered by the age of four. Some of these new cyclists looked scared, not taking their feet off the ground to pedal, just moving the wheels along with the steps of their feet, others pedaling with somewhat wonky handle bar action, and others pedaling away with ease. Although they were all at varying levels of competency, they were giving it a go, learning to do something that most can do with ease and something they have probably wanted to do for a while. There was one lady in particular, with her bright fluoro stack hat, who caught my attention. Not because her helmet was so bright it screamed at me, it was the grin beaming from her face, going from one ear to the other. It was beautiful! The smile on her wrinkled face was that of a little three year old who has just started pedaling their brand new bike, proud as punch! Got me thinking how we live life acting our age, and what if we spent time not acting our age, let go of the handlebars more often, if we stack it, brush the bitumen off our knees and get back on the bike. The wounds and scars I have on my body from my childhood bicycle accidents are proof to me that even when I stacked it, I still got back on the bike, band aids and all. I choose to embrace this even more than I already am. These beautiful people taught me a very valuable lesson. Its never too late to learn something new with childlike wonder, acknowledge the feeling of achievement and push yourself even more than you are now and most of all to GET BACK ON THE BIKE WHEN YOU FALL OFF!
