I just watched The Davinci Code for the first time (just a tad bit late, I know). I remember when this movie came out, as well as the book, listening to many people (some of which, I had always considered to be brilliant minds) excitedly rant and rave about the possible legitimacy of Dan Browns fiction. Tonight, I found myself laughing (at times, hysterically!) at the utter absurdity of not only The Davinci Codes historical references of the Bible and of Christian/Catholic Doctrine, but also of the movie itself; the filmography, starting from the script, to the production and direction, and even to some extent, the acting (what were Ron Howard and Tom Hanks thinking?!). I found it just hilarious, how it took its own mediocrity, as a film, and as a story, so seriously! A decade ago, I listened to intelligent people take this silly work of fiction as, well..... Gospel. Dude, whos to say that Christ didnt knock up Mary Magdelene? Dude, whos to say that the excluded books of the The Bible, werent part of a 2,000 year old cover up, by the Catholic Church? These people had no idea about Biblical History, nor Doctrine, yet all of a sudden, they were scholars teaching me (a somewhat new Christian, and absolutely, a Biblical History novice) about The Bible and about Christianity. Ive noticed, that theres nothing like The Bible, to turn an otherwise smart and discerning person, into an absolutely child-like fool, ignoring their ignorance, and suspending all critical thought. The Un-Believing Sceptic, instantaneously, becomes the most submissive, faith-filled, blind zealot, that anyone has ever seen. And, to whom do they give all of their trust over to, so willingly, and so obediently? Answer: Hollywood. New Age Fiction. For all intents and purposes..... Disneyland. (Its important to note, that these people usually treat their politics the same way they treat their Religion Of Nothingness..... with no discernment, with very little facts, and with total obedience to what people they dont know, tell them to think). At least (at the very least) the Christians believe in an ancient text; in a Book that is time tested, not to mention, a Book that has been debated by brilliant scholars, over millennia, due to its extraordinary depth, as well as its exclusive and unrepeatable nature (some would say, Holiness). What do you believe? If youve not looked into it, with any seriousness, then the answer is NOTHING. You believe in Subjective Vacancy. You believe in Dan Browns The Davinci Code. You believe whatever you invent, for yourself, pretending that you have any objective authority to do so, whatsoever. After all, what pupil rejects a teacher, and successfully creates a new education all by himself? (Always beware of any philosophy that is NEW!!!) Or, what pupil learns from a teacher with no crudentials, whatsoever?
