I keep reading that in horror, ultimately the real monsters are the humans. Id say in zombie horror this is probably true, but it then demands an answer about my own particular field; Cosmic Horror. It just seems like this may really be what sets Cosmic Horror apart and makes it the oddball of the horror world. So Id like to pose the following questions to all of you out there in TV Land… Is horror fiction just a demonstration that ultimately humans are the real monsters? And if this proposition is true, is this possibly the real distinction between Lovecraftian, Cosmic Horror, Weird Fiction or whatever theyre calling it this week, that in Cosmic Horror the bad guy isnt ultimately people but something other unutterable, unnamable other? (And yes, Im sure theres some dry tiresome academic thats set the record straight for us the unwashed masses, so lets just skip all of that…)
