I know I will get a lot of hate mail for this, but...Im trying to understand. In Houston, there are over 1 million stray animals (dogs + cats) living on the streets. All rescuers are aware of this, not sure if the general population is, but stray dogs are a common occurrence. Many people drive by strays if they are unable to take them home and foster, figuring they are better off on the streets. Sometimes, this works out and the person can network the dog for a foster, but much more often, the dog is never seen again or is hit by a car or likely suffers another horrible fate. And while theyre out there suffering and starving, they have babies, who have babies, etc. Because lets face it - the majority of those one million animals are NOT getting rescued. So why do rescuers get angry at people who pick up dogs and take them to a shelter? And yet, no one would ever encourage someone surrendering their dog to instead abandon him/her on the streets, right? Im not trying to be sarcastic or judgmental, Im just curious, because this seems somewhat incongruent.
