I know it seems like I say it every week, but I once again had a pretty incredible week with the school garden. On Thursday, we had the Project Fair, and my students did an excellent job showing off all they knew about the garden. We sold $52 worth of produce at the event, helping us to eclipse the $500 mark for the season. This weekend, I attended the Northeast Organic Farming Association’s annual summer conference, and it was amazingly informative. The garden continues to provide surprises as we begin the transition into fall. Here’s what we have available this week: Zucchini and Summer Squash: $1 each We some decrease in the production of our squash plants last week. Still, we should have a few zucchini and summer squash available this week. Swiss Chard: $2 per order (about 15 leaves) We have plenty of Swiss chard available this week. Our leaves are large and should provide a great opportunity to try this flavorful alternative to spinach. Basil: $1 per bunch Our basil plants continue to look strong. We are being generous with our orders, generally giving two or three full stems. Kale: $2 per order (about 15 leaves) We have sold a good amount of kale over the last few weeks, and we are hoping our plants will regrow some of their leaves. We still might have some available for orders this week. Broccoli: $2 per order We should have more broccoli available this week. Our heads are growing larger. We hope to see more of our plants producing soon. Onions: $1 per order (4-6 onions) We have harvested our second batch of onions! Each order will include 4-6 onions depending on their size. Green Beans: $3 per quart We continued to pick green beans last week, and we expect to see some of our newer plants producing soon. We should be able to fulfill orders this week. Turnips and Greens: $1 per order We only have a few turnips left in the field. This may be the last chance this season to order these versatile vegetables. Beets: $2 per order (3-5 beets) We may have enough beets to fulfill a couple of orders this week. Order soon if you want to ensure you order in time. Cucumbers: $1 per order We picked quite a few cucumbers last week, and we have newer plants that should be producing soon. Each order will include 1 or 2 cucumbers depending on size. Flowers: $4 per bouquet We offer small flower bouquets of mixed stems. Each order includes 10-15 stems and a small glass vase. Eggplant: $2 each We harvested our first eggplant last week and we do have a few more on the way. We expect to see more of plants producing soon. I can only accept orders until Wednesday this week, so please try to get your orders in early if you’re interested. Thanks for the support.
