I know its not summer yet but it will be here before you know it and with it often comes some very unfortunate decisions regarding grooming. Basils mom found out the hard way when she took him to a groomer that shaved him down so he would be cooler in the summer. He suffered through razor burns and his double coat did not grow back the way it was before. Hes still a cute little bugger but he now sports a very fuzzy coat that does not give him the same protection against the cold or the heat. There are of course times when shaving is necessary and that is when a dog has become so matted that there isnt an alternative. Matts can be very painful as the hair is twisted and clumped right near the surface of the skin (think really tight ponytail that someone tries to tighten with one more loop of the elastic).
