I know some of us are weary of war talks and experiences, you - TopicsExpress

I know some of us are weary of war talks and experiences, you have good reasons to be but please allow me to express another side of this experience because healing comes from discourse and there couldn’t have been a better forum. I was not in Liberia during the war; I left right at the onset of the crisis so one may say I did not have an experience. Well, I did. I left behind a household of loved ones, my son, parents, sisters, brothers, uncle, aunts’ nieces, nephews and former schoolmates. At the time of no direct communication when things got out of control, couldn’t determine if my entire family was still alive or dead, the emotional distress considering the waiting period to hear from anyone especially when large us broadcasting stations would at that time showed the horror of the situation. After the wait, many nights and days of tears and agony, finally a pocket of communication opened in Buchanan. I remembered my oldest sister so excited to talk to my dad Dr. Abba Karnga and family members. While on the phone for approximately 5 minutes a group of warren fashion arrived at the house purposely looking for my father. The phone call ended when my father dropped on the floor as my brother instantly yelled “YOU SHOT MY FATHER! YOU SHOT MY FATHER IN THE HEAD”! MY OLDEST SISTER ON THE OTHER END OF THE CALL HORRIFIED, PA! PA! PA! and that was the end of the communication. All we knew was that he GOT SHOT IN THE HEAD; DID HE DIED, HOW WILL HE BE BURRIED, DID THEY KILL MY MOTHER AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS TOO? We did not get answers to any of those questions for at least 7 months. I was 8 months pregnant, picked up from work got the news, instant labor (thank God for that result). The unbearable distress of knowing your father got shot but didn’t know what happened next for almost a year; no eating so, so, fast and prayer, frailed with heartaches. What an experience? My FATHER MIRACULOUSLY survived the gunshot wound to his head. The bullet grazed through his forehead into a wall! When you don’t know what to think in time of crisis just have faith and believe that all is well. Our trails are meant to make us stronger while preparing us for our “NOW”. Look back, look at your “NOW” and be grateful!
