I learned over the years, dealing with different direct care - TopicsExpress

I learned over the years, dealing with different direct care agency, it does not matter at all what agency you may decide to hire to provide the in-home available supports, such as, community living support (CLS) and or respite care and personal care and home care services. It basically come down to the direct care staff individual work experiences and ethic and following the agencies policy and the Community Mental Health Training, as they been trained and directed to follow to provide to an individual with DD. If the direct care staff grows a brain and does not follow the agency policies and do their job as they been trained addition to the one on one training I provide to staff, it just a matter of time, before they will make ongoing series mistake, that could turn deadly. Addition to, when I first work in the field at times I felt very awkward in a consumer’s home. Because I felt I must actually be doing some type of work, teaching appropriate social skills, by socializing with the consumer was the plan of services, and it seem very strange I am being paid to socialize and take the consumer to stores, or restaurants or other community activities. When direct care staff come into my home to work I try to help them feel at ease, and relaxed, and not worry about making any mistakes. I make myself always available to help them, to help them with developing the skills they will need to work, to relate, to interact with my son. When they feel safe and confident to manage the services on their own, I will step away, unless they need me to help them. Providing my son with ongoing Community Living Supports is not for my benefit to get a break from my son level of care, it’s about me and direct care staff acting as a team, working together to increase the quality of my son life with respect to his civil liberties and health and safety. When respite care provided in my home, this service is for me to take a break away from managing the physical care. Addition to, allows me time to micromanage my additional obligation, I cannot do, when staff is not here. Yet in the event of a behavioral crisis, I always stop what I am doing to help the direct care staff, because their health and safety is equally as important to me as my son is. Now if you live in the Grand Rapids Michigan area, an interested in a job in this field, I can help you, along with provide you with one on one training while working with my son. Just email me at rwjohnsonsr @live and type in the subject of your email, requesting employment. If you are familiar with Spectrum Community Services or Real Life Living Agencies contact either or both of the agencies directly and ask about working for Bobby Johnson.
