I learned two things first-hand today: 1) The Healthcare - TopicsExpress

I learned two things first-hand today: 1) The Healthcare industry is corrupt. Well, not everyone necessarily. I had to get x-rays of my hand to make sure it wasnt broken. From a bee sting. Yea. I dont understand either. When I questioned the doctor, he just said hes had people who thought it was a bee sting when it was actually broken, and he ignored my comment of how I saw and removed the actual stinger. The x-ray tech then was telling me about another doctor who would make people get x-rays for literally anything. While it doesnt always cost the patient anything directly, the Healthcare providers pay for it, and that money comes from everyones higher rates. 2) Three doctors/nurses told me 3 extremely different diagnoses. The first doctor (with the x-rays) had no idea why my hand was so large and thought that it might be infected and need to be opened and drained of fluid. A nurse in the ER said that I was having a localized allergic reaction and that I should be carrying an EpiPen from now on. Finally, the doctor who actually saw me in the ER said it was just a regular reaction to a bee sting. Now, Im not blaming anyone for the varied diagnoses, but it is definitely interesting to see how modern medicine works; everyone is just guessing based on known symptoms and passing it off as fact. Overall, it makes me wonder if the Healthcare system can actually be fixed ever. Doctors of course need to check for all possibilities (like a broken hand) or risk being sued for being incompetent, but if we removed some of the blame from Healthcare practitioners when things go wrong then we would receive worse care because they wouldnt be checking for the uncommon. Sure there is some corruption in the industry, but how can we effectively remove that without compromising on treatment? Sorry for the long post. Just thought Id share my thoughts and experience.
