I like how the apostle Paul begins several of his epistles, Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the WILL OF GOD... (emphasis added). Paul was chosen for salvation and apostleship by the sovereign work of God. It was not of his works since he was blaspheming Christ and persecuting saints while on that road to Damascus. We are saved and kept by the grace and mercy of our heavenly Father.
