I love Chris Hedges and I love this show. However, this said, Chris missed the point that our secular laws in fact forbid any religious display (for all religions) in government run things like public schools. That is not about being racist, anti-religious, its about respecting the secular laws of our Republic which dates back to the French revolution. Why should we change that because religious group want to? We dont have laws based on religion, we have laws based on laicité or secularism. I dont go to Muslim countries and tell them they should stop wearing the burka. I think he misses the point about that. However, people being arrested is wrong. There should be a strong education in all communities, including non-religious ones, about a serious need for understanding the laws in France, which obviously a lot of people dont, including Chris. As far as everything else he said (beside the laws of the Republic), he is absolutely right and there is now a huge discussion here about all the issues he addressed on Abbys show which have been ignored for many years. I think this attack was a bad thing but a good thing in a way in the sense that discussion is now open about everything that is wrong in our country, as Ive seen it a lot on the media here. I am still #JeSuisCharlie not because I agree with everything CH said or because I believe there isnt a problem of free press and free speech and wrongdoing of communities in our own country or around the world but because I believe that the laws of our country should be understood and that the press really needs to be free. CH, however imperfect it was, was a lot more free to say what it wanted than most. In fact, the people killed are an interesting choice from the killers. They didnt target the government zombies implanted in the newspaper (and all other newspapers in France), they attacked and killed only the ones who were against all this. youtu.be/mYnf6KfEroE
