I love Christmas Eve, because Advent is about to explode into celebration. All the waiting, all the hoping and longing...and THEN JESUS COMES. Just like He promised. I recently taught on Luke 2, how all that prophecy in the OT was fulfilled in Jesus. In the right line & at the right spot, Jesus came, just where prophecy told us look for Him. One tiny delay and the prophecy would have failed, because the couple from Nazareth needed to have their baby in Bethlehem. From his first breath, we already know we have a Savior that is true and trustworthy and divine. THAT He came is good for my mind, but HOW He came is good for my heart. Poor, unlikely, humble, low. Like Spurgeon said, We might tremble to approach a throne, but we cannot fear to approach a manger… accept him as your Savior, for he puts himself into that manger that you may approach him. The throne of Solomon might awe you, but the manger of the Son of David must invite you.” It’s so confusing and shocking, that most people could just never believe He was the one. In fact, most of Jesus’ followers would end up being ordinary people who were simple and pure enough to believe in a humble Savior. The higher and prouder and more powerful people were, the less likely they were to believe in a Savior like this. It’s too humiliating. Almost embarrassing. This was no Caesar, born to conquer and terrify; this was the People’s Savior, King of the Poor and the Simple – who would have ever imagined this?? This is our Jesus. You cannot be too low or too broken or too humble or too confused for Him. He is no Palace Savior to be feared...he is a Manger Savior to be treasured. The angels declared it from day one: I bring you good news of great joy that will be for ALL the people.” All means all. Love has come and we are saved. Hallelujah. Long lay the world in sin and error pining, till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn...
