I love my kids school and I LOVE, respect and value my kids teachers. But - when I was a kid (in the dark ages, as my eldest puts it), we had standardized tests. The day before the test, we practiced filling in the bubbles. We were told to bring 2 #2 pencils to school. Thats it. That was our test prep. We didnt even know what our standardized tests were called - we didnt lose recess while older kids were test-taking. We never heard things like You wont go to middle school unless you pass. We didnt learn songs about the test; we had no test practice workbooks. As a parent, as a former teacher, and as a way-former (like 100 years ago) student, I wonder if were moving in the right direction when it comes to testing...
