I love school, but I will never get over how much of a power move it is for a professor to make one of their own publications the required text/ focal point of readings. A textbook is a teaching aid used to supplement the material covered in class. The text often adds a different perspective to the same subject matter, and can really drive home a point that a teacher cannot articulate, and vice versa. Thus, a teacher and a textbook fill the lost information of one another. There is little added value to a textbook written by the teaching professor to be used as his or her own aid. Dont make me pay for a printed copy of what Im already paying you to tell me. /rant.
