I love to bake and prepare good meals and in saying that, I really treasure my old dated cookbooks that had belonged to my Mom and her mom. One of the cookbooks I inherited from my grandmother had belonged to her mother and the recipes in that book are handwritten by my great grandmother. One of the recipes in that particular book is for a molasses cake and my grandmother wrote on the recipe saying This is the first cake I ever baked at age 12 I am so thrilled to have that and when I bake from those books I feel like I have all of those wonderful women so close to me. My Mom was an amazing woman and I honestly believe there was nothing she could not do. Among her many talents, Mom was an amazing cook and she baked a lot when I was young. I remember one Christmas Eve Mom had baked a Butterscotch Pie, Coconut Cream Pie, Pumpkin Pie, a fruitcake and cookies. Whenever I was sad back in my teen years, Mom would always make me my favorite maple fudge. She also made the most delicious date squares and I loved those too. I enjoy making home made donuts (Moms recipe) shortbread cookies (Nannys recipe) and a double crust apple pie among other favorites like cherry and banana breads and cinnamon rolls. My daughter Sara likes to bake and she makes fabulous bread and rolls, the best I have tasted:) What do you like to bake and do you have favorite old recipes ?
