I met a couple tonight who shared a personal story with me, they had lost their teenage son Travis, only three weeks ago. He was only a year older than my son. The couple were from out of town and had spent the last month at Canuck place with Travis, loving him out of his pain. And here we were, virtual strangers connected by music. They both cried to me, and I cried with them and they said Canuck Place Childrens Hospice was the most important thing in the world to them. It was a lifesaver for both of them and they are so, so, so grateful. It seemed they could not say it enough and I could not feel it any deeper. And I wanted to do something for them but it was impossible. What they needed was impossible and it made me feel angry at life. So I promised I would tell people, because the message they want to spread is not just that Canuck place took magnificent care of their son in his last days but that they themselves were taken care of and it was literally a life saver for them. When you actually look parents in the eye who have just lost a child, trust me, you just want to know that they are taken care of. Something about that seems incredibly important. Anyhow. if anyone is looking for a local donation place to support at any time? From the story I heard tonight, I can say quite sincerely that Canuck place are making a real difference, right here at home where we can actually feel it.
