I met an interesting character today while out walking the pooch. A lonely older guy who said he is widowed for 18 years..he came out of his apartment to pet Scruffy and we chatted about 15 minutes. Hes distraught because the building is for sale. Tom and I were actually checking it out last week. I asked him if he likes turkey..oh yes Mam I do Do you like ham? How about sweet potatoes? Oh yes I love all of that.. He said he is a grave digger at a little local cemetery that is actually the oldest in Chicago I believe. Union Ridge Cemetery on Higgins near Ruhtherford..I have passed that little cemetery hundreds of times. Not sure if it is still active? It is very small and landlocked..or was he going down memory lane? But his fingernails were black with dirt so maybe he is still a grave digger. He said his name is Bill but they call me Digger cuz I dig graves He said he is working all week including the holidays..he said he opens the gates and takes care of the office there as well. At any rate we will drop off a nice homecooked meal for him and some treats since he said he hasnt had plans for the holidays for years. Maybe he is shunned because his face is terribly deformed...he asked for Scruffy to come by again.
