I need to say this before Saturday rolls around. I never questioned that being divorced was something God hated (Malachi 2:16). I never blamed the church, God, or my specific church for the divorce. I never was angry with the church for not letting me be a deacon because I was divorced (I Timothy). HFBC loved me and my family through this, and every opportunity Ive been given to serve the Lord has been a blessing, but I knew there were boundaries--as there should have been. When you sin, blaming God is silly. Blaming the church for obeying scripture is silly too. The church has the obligation not to judge, but it also must not condone open blatant sin. It must respond to that sin with mercy, grace, love, mixed with respect for God. That means limiting the activities of people in open rebellion. It means giving people a chance to make it right, and restoring them when they do. Its loving and caring for them--but being firm in the Lord--when they dont. Its unpleasant, but it must be done. Over and under reactions are destructive. Shopping for a church that accommodates your sin doesnt address the problem. Praise God for restoration!!! Please--feel free to comment, but therns no need to address specific sins by name. All sin is detestable to God, and none of us are clean on our own.
