I need to share the story of the finding of Mr Tom a beaut cat owned by a good friend of mine - stuck over 50 feet high in a tree for almost 4 days. Anita and I finally located him, at 2am (yes - am),stuck in a tree in the woods. (after we had spent a good few hours hunting in the woods, with a torch each, wading through the brambles and nettles. We reluctantly had to leave him there, til we could get help the next day. First action was RSPCA and an attempted rescue by 2 amazing local tree surgeons from Rougham, unfortunately despite their amazing efforts - Tom was just too high. So back on the phone to RSPCA, who need to authorise the fire brigade to come - (came across one or two jobsworth staff - took several hours(yes, several - with Tom still stuck, now about 60 feet high)) Cambridge fire crew were called,(11pm) they arrived asap, (2 fire engines, and a super long ...... ladder). I dont think they could quite believe how high poor Mr Tom was, but they were unable to use the ladder, so the only option left was to hose him out of the tree. First attempt - we couldnt tell where he had gone- we were all convinced hed fallen - into the 3 metre square mass of brambles . ouch. we were all silent, hoping he was ok, hoping to hear him mew. nothing. hearts thumping, we found him. Still in the tree but lower down - hed landed on another branch. So the only option was to hose him again - this time he was given his first and hopefully only, flying lesson - he was a natural. He landed in amongst the 4 feet high stinging nettles - better than the brambles at least! we couldnt find him, so went back to Anitas - to resume search (on ground) in the morning. But guess who was there before us - a slightly soggy moggy, but otherwise fine - the gorgeous Mr Tom. So a huge THANK YOU to the tree surgeons, and Cambridge Fire service. And Anita, please thank Tom for my flowers, and lets hope he doesnt mind being grounded - literally- from now on!!!!
