I needed this article. Violet is really into Hawaiian shirts with cars or boats on them, she seems to despise anything that comes close to matching, and she has an affinity for cat ears. I recently realized I cant (and shouldnt) control what she wears because even though they may be small, kids really are their own unique people, not extensions of their parents. So we went to a thrift store a few days ago on a hunt for more Hawaiian shirts. It was awesome. she even picked out one for her sister (Audrey completely acted like she loved it). She also picked out two star wars shirts and a tutu. This really isnt about fashion anymore, its about her uninhibited freedom to be herself. I adore her independence and autonomy and although I would never wear a Hawaiian shirt with station wagons all over it, she would, and I love her for it.
