I needed to take control of dimmers via a lighting desk on stage today. That should be easy...you gender reverse one of the DMX outputs to be an input and then at the control end, the corresponding DMX output you reverse as an input to the dimmers. The only problem? I had no male>male gender benders. So...I took the female 5pin DMX output on stage and plugged it into a male 5pin DMX cable which on the the other end had a female 3pin connection. I then used a male>male 3pin converter and plugged in a female 3pin on the other side. The other end of THAT cable was 5pin DMX male. Essentially I used about a mile of cable and a bucket full of different adapters to convert one cable over the distance of less than a metre. Thanks today.
