I never imagined a simple thumb up and smile could bring a person to tears... As I entered the track area of the gym tonight there was a girl running right toward me. I have seen her there a few times this week doing cardio. I have her a simple thumbs up, smiled at her and continued on my way. About 10 minutes later, she approaches me, looks a me, her eyes welled up with tears and she said Im so sorry to interrupt you but I wanted to say thank you. Thank you for smiling at me and giving me a thumbs up! It was obvious that she was very humbled and needed to talk. Yes, she is an overweight lady, but she is busting her ass to get her health in line. I stopped what I was doing and gave her a hug! She says to me all I get are horrible looks, people laughing at me, and skinny girls rolling their eyes. This is so hard for me and I just want to quit! She and I had a heart-to-heart talk and I told her how jealous I was of her that she can run! I explained to her the nerve damage I have in my left leg and that right now Im trying to regain muscle memory and retrain that leg and that somedays walking is a challenge for me...I asked her for her number and text her a few things I have saved in my phone...I reminded her that we all have our battles...that she can fix her weight, but those pissy ass attitudes will always be pissy ass attitudes and to look past them. I told her to look forward and never look back, not to compare herself to them in any way, and to compare herself to herself....That daily it will get easier...Her response to me I really need someone like you in my life right now!...What a sweet, sweet girl Amanda is, and Im so blessed to have met her!
