I normally keep my religious and spiritual beliefs to myself, very close and private. Today, though, I am publicly saying how grateful I am to God and His grace and guardian angels. This morning, Virginia came out of the shower to find an intruder in her bedroom, going through her underwear drawer. He had come through her bedroom window, gone through each of her three roommates rooms, and was going through hers. Clad only in her bath towel and armed only with her voice, indignation, anger, adrenaline, and likely a touch of fear, she demanded, What the hell are you doing in my house!? He took off for the front door, and she went after him, determined to be certain she could give a good description to the police. She made the snap decision that grabbing her phone & calling 911 would lose precious time toward that goal. And of course she was yelling at him the whole time. He did not take her laptop that was on her bed. He did steal her bottle of topomax, an anticonvulsant to control her migraines, but it was nearly empty, not the refill. He got one roommates tablet and a few other items. Fortunately he did not have a weapon, and very likely he was scared crazy by her reaction. (Im guessing he probably went homeband changed his britches!) He also passed right in front of the security camera, so ... Now, as a parent, I could wish this never happened, that I could have spared her this. Naturally, I could wish perhaps for different ways of reacting. Yet I have to say I am very proud of her courage and determination, her refusal to be victimized. I could wish she werent four hours away and I could be there in half a heartbeat. More than anything, I am unutterably grateful that she was not harmed and is safe and even minimally traumatized. She is one tough little young woman! I hope and pray that continues, and I am grateful she has caring and supportive friends. I am unutterably thankful for Gods grace and guardian angels He has set to watch over us. He has kept both of my daughters safe, and given them strength and courage to face what life gives them.
