I now have quite a few projects on the verge of completion. It is usual for a project at this stage to encounter all sorts of snags. Common causes of delays are faulty new parts- this happens far to often but also it can be the non availability of certain elusive parts. Occasionally it can be delays caused by outside contractors who for various reasons havent finished a job that theyve taken on for me. What is unusual is to have seven projects at this frustrating stage. Once they all go my workshop will seem so clear and spacious but it looks like it will easily take around another two or three weeks before they go. For the customers of the remaining projects I get the impression that they feel that theyve been forgotten. It is assumed that with all this activity I must be making a fortune. Sadly not so because the final stages and all the delays are not profitable at all. The thing that makes it all worthwhile is that in a short time I will have reduced my project level from the 28 projects that I had when I moved in 18 months ago down to around nine witha few in storage elsewhere The aim is to have only six projects which will leave me with far more time to spend on each car and increase the speed that they can be finished. For the time being I intend to restrict taking on new work in order to make sure that remaining customers get the best value. Ideally I would like none of my current projects to be with me in the workshop by this time next year but of course this will depend on just how many snags I encounter on the way. For new work, which is needed, the plan is that once the seven near-finished cars leave I will start to bring in one new project for each two subsequent old projects leaving. I hope that this strikes a cord with existing customers who are currently waiting for the return of their vehicle and have not recently seen mention of their cars here and have been contacting me to find out what is happening- your turn is coming...
