I often cried as a kid when my Dad goes on a short business or personal trips. Our house was not the same without him during these periods. I was always moody, depressed, sad and lack motivation of any kind during his absence. If there were Alien attack, our house would have fallen easier than others in the Village as my super hero was not around to protect us, I thought, during these periods. My Dad, a man who led by examples was a super Dad, a very hard worker who spend many hours in his farm so that his children could have plenty to eat. We were not rich by any imagination but our house had plenty of love enough to circle the earth many times over. As a shy kid, I could not have been able to excel without my father in my life. His presence alone commanded authority and gave me the strength and confidence to climb higher. I always wanted to make him proud too by doing things that glorified the family name. He loved me and was very proud of my little contributions. My Dad knew there was no life for me in the village and mortgaged his life to send me to school and beyond. He never asked for anything in returned. “As long as you’re fine, I am pleased” he told me many times. I have been fine for many years and I believed my father is double proud of what his shy little boy had become. As we celebrate this Father’s day, I wanted the whole world to know of what my DAD meant to me. He was my hero, a super Dad and the best friend I ever had. Without him, my life would have been limited to my little OGHEHE Village, population 200.
