I opened my gift from my Momma and Daddy just before we left. - TopicsExpress

I opened my gift from my Momma and Daddy just before we left. This might look like a typical Christmas decoration at first glance, but it is so much more. This Santa started out as a cypress knee harvested by my Daddy from the swamps of Little River in Louisiana where my family has a fishing camp. Its one of the most prominent places of my childhood. It was boiled and peeled and sat waiting to be something for about 2 years. I had seen the cypress knee Santas and said just now much I liked them and would love to have one. So my Momma bought one for me (which is beautiful and I failed to a photo). But this one she sent about a month ago to my Aunt Peggy Vizena, who is a wonderfully talented artist. She is more like an older sister and as a child I thought she hung the moon. I love her more than she might ever know. She painted this sweet Santa in a special way that only family would understand without explaining. My PaPa dressed as Santa for as long as I can remember. He was the best Santa anyone could ever have been. His padding was real and he loved doing it as much as the little kids loved whispering their list to him year after year. He went to homes, schools, churches, parades, parties, and a few times I was honored to be his elf. If you look closely in Santas pocket you will find a tiny harmonica. You see my grandfather almost always had a harmonica in his pocket. He would play anywhere. One of my fondest memories is him playing You Picked a Fine Time to Leave Me Lucille and I would sing along. I mightve been about 4 years old. Thank you Larry Crawford-Momma & Daddy for one of the most special gifts Ive ever received....written with a finger on my nose.
