I paused in front of the mirror and stared at a reflection looking back at me. I could hardly recognize that girl in the mirror. She was so different now, than she was just a few short years ago. Time was slowly draining her youth. Raising young children, sleepless nights, stress and pain had caused lines, sags, blemish, and distress to her skin. A New Year means slipping time. It was so apparent that my outer body was wasting away. With this realization, how can one help but to lose heart. Reflecting on 2 Corinthians 4:16,Therefore we do not lose heart, though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly, we are being renewed day by day. New Years tends to make us step back and reflect on our lives. All of us have years that we look back upon with either great thankfulness and joy or the general feeling of wanting to forget that it ever took place. Personally there are certainly some wonderful years that totally shaped my life in a positive way.Without exception, each one of those years held no promise of what was coming as I awoke on January 1st. In fact, I can think of numerous years where what I determined was going to happen that year turned out to be just the opposite. The scriptures remind us that this life is but a moment compared to the eternity God has waiting for us. Earthly life is just a flicker. Just a fraction of reflection compared to Grace. And so as another new year draws near, I pray God will give me the grace and strength to embrace all that yet another new year will bring.
