I personally am the beneficiary of breast cancer research. The discovery of the BRCA gene, the test to detect it, and the decision to be proactive saved my life! The (at the time of surgery 4/16/2012) undetected cancer that was found in my breast tissue (even though I had 2 mammograms and 2 breast MRIs within the 6 months prior to proactive surgery) removed from my body 30 months ago, was 2 to 3 years away from being detectable. Which would be now. Who knows where that .04cm ductal insitu carcinoma would have spread or how aggressive it would have been! The discovery of the BRCA gene and the Test to detect it didnt save my breasts.... But it spared me having to undergo chemo, radiation and all the uncertainty and unpleasantness those therapies bring. I am so grateful and so blessed! Thank you Dr. Mark Moskowitz for insisting I be tested!
