I posted 2 weeks ago that I was going to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, but I failed to update any results. Ive had numerous inquiries, so here goes. They confirmed mild restrictive & severe obstructive lung diseases. Also, they tested my diffusion efficiency with carbon monoxide, and my result was 50% of normal. The doctors described it thusly: imagine if the surface area of the lungs were a tennis court - then I am only playing on half of the court. They want to find out why, and suspect my heart. Now gathering historical tests & procedures from other hospitals before they proceed. May also do a sleep study. I do have mild pulmonary hypertension, as well as slightly elevated end left ventricle diastolic pressure (a marker of congestive heart failure). Bottom line: Hershey has given me new information; I am sure that there is no cure, but perhaps they will be able to help me better manage and improve my quality of life. And, oh yeah, I need to lose some weight.
