I posted about having too many temples in Malaysia few weeks ago. Let me make it much more diplomatic this time. In US we have very limited temples even thou there are 3.18 million Indians in US and temples are tax exempt business. We have less than 2 million Indians in Malaysia and even less Hindus but we have over 33,000 temples. In US, Hindu temples are considered as community center where the premises is used to teach Mahabaratham, Ramayanam etc. Languages such as Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Gujarati and so on. Arts such as barathanatyam, kuchipudi and stuff. Music instruments such as tabala, flute etc. Religious class regarding Hinduism, stories etc. Then we have competitions, activities, library, hall, room to practice mantras and so many things. I mean it will be a place that you gain knowledge about Hinduism, life, language, art, and make new friends. Just compare that to Malaysia and we have temple that dont have proper parking, build in the size of my toilet, no hall, no resource center, not enough place to teach religious classes or any other activity. The priest himself having trouble with Tamil (beside mantra that he mumbles). Temples in Malaysia has become a place to eat free food, start a fight, check out chicks, flirt with aunties, compare sarees, and all other useless shit. Its not building any unity or understanding anymore. A temple which should be a center of knowledge, identity and community development is now just a place to lepak when there is a free food. Temple management, please take some actions to make your place little useful to community and educate the next generation. Temple is the only place that you can gather all Indian community in Malaysia because macha wont even go to Tamil schools anymore. When you have such responsibility, why are you wasting it on unnecessary kambing sembelih, ayam curry, tomato rice and stuff? Think about it.
