I propose a change in how we determine the salary of our General - TopicsExpress

I propose a change in how we determine the salary of our General Assembly in Harrisburg. The legislature should be paid a salary equal to the states median income. In 2012, that was $ 52,000 a year. As prosperity rises for all, so will their salaries. Their other compensation should adhere to the state constitution. Their generous benefits currently exceed the clear language of the constitution. The members of the General Assembly shall receive such salary and mileage for regular and special sessions as shall be fixed by law, and no other compensation whatever, whether for service upon committee or otherwise, says Compensation Section 8 in the state constitution. No pensions, no more lifetime health insurance at the taxpayers expense. Period. Each legislator should be issued an inexpensive jacket they should be mandated to sew a patch for each campaign donor who gave them more than $ 1,000. They should be required to wear this disclosure jacket at all public functions related to their office and on the floor of the House and Senate. Finally, they should promptly pass the bill requiring electronic reporting of all campaign donations before the election. This was posted in the newspaper the other day by a Cynthia OHora from Shamokin Dam. I thought that it was a great idea and deserved a posting on facebook.
