I ran into Greg Saturday, hes in the process of trying to get the street Steve grew up on dedicated to him, he asked me to pen a letter that we could all sign so Im going to put it up above the sign in podium in the morning, also planning to bring a copy to the other districts in QW and hopefully get a bunch of signatures... To Whom It May Concern: I am writing on behalf of my coworkers from Queens West 5A Garage of the Department of Sanitation, and, subsequently, our brothers and sisters that comprise all of the districts within Queens West. It is our earnest request to have a street dedicated to our brother Steven A. Frosch who recently lost his life in the line of duty. Steven was a man of considerable generosity as almost half of his life was spent serving his fellows. Steven was a quiet pillar in the community through his dedication to the job and his good-natured attitude towards those he served. There are many within our garage, myself included, that can tell you stories of people on Stevens route that were unable to hide their grief when informed of his untimely passing. Steven was one of those rare people who left a long lasting impression, no matter how brief the encounter. He was also one of the most charitable people one could meet, not just monetarily but also with his time: if he wasnt spearheading a fundraiser himself within our garage, he was always an indispensable help to whomever was in charge of organizing a collection, whether it be for Anemia, Diabetes, or Autism. Steven did all of this, and much more, without an expectation of recognition. This is why now, as we reflect on Stevens life, it would mean so much to those of us who have lost, as one member of the garage referred to him, The Heart of Queens West 5A, to have the street he grew up on in Middle Village named after him. The street is 67th Drive between 78th and 79th Streets, where a member of the Frosch family has resided for over half a century and where Steven himself lived for 30 years. Our hope is that this petition might fall under the compassionate and sympathetic eye of one who could grant us this seemingly small gesture in honor of a man who deserved so much more. Thank you for your consideration and your time. Respectfully, Sanitation Worker Daniel A. Swain
