I re-posted this yesterday, and I have held my tongue on those who have called me selfish and narcissistic for waiting until our daughter turns 6 to start kindergarten. Honestly? It seems to be a poor reflection on those who call names. It always seems to be either those who 1) started kindergarten themselves at a young age (4-5) or 2) those parents who sent their kids at a young age. Why is it that moms today get so offended when someone makes a different choice? Why does something as innocent as starting kindergarten have to be so divisive and bring out the worst in people? I never said in this post that I thought it was wrong to send younger children to kindergarten. I said it was a very personal choice. This is *our* familys choice. If you send your 4-year-old to kindergarten, I do not judge you. Each child is unique. In fact, if you read the post, I even linked to my friends blog who wrote about sending her 4-year-old to school!! I also get negative comments on this from those who homeschool. It is clear so many dont read the post. We are doing the university model of homeschooling--3 days there and 2 days home. 9 months in? I am so incredibly thankful we did not send *our* 5-year-old to kindergarten. It was the very best choice for *our* family. Yours may be different! Good for you for knowing your own child!
