I realize I have a tendency to look for any positive signals that Marty is improving so, today, I tried to pay a attention to what her therapists had to say. What I heard from them confirms my assessment of her progress. Her speech therapist, who keeps detailed notes in order to quantify her progress, has been commenting on her consistently improving status. Today , she told Marty, was without a doubt her best day. The occupational therapist also was very complimentary of her session today. Her regular physical therapist is on vacation but the substitute talked about how she exceeded expectations based on her files. Her determination to do things her way is also surging forward. We had to have firm discussions a few times today about not exceeding her current abilities. She doesnt like wearing a seat belt in her wheelchair. She feels like she should be able to get out of her wheelchair and walk across the room if she wants to. There have been warning signs to expect this for several weeks and, now that it is here, closer attention to what is happening is is mandatory. My prayer now is that her physical recovery will be accelerated to match her expectations!
