I really dont understand some of the small minded comments on my last status update about Russell donating to the Justice for Hillsborough campaign. There seems to be some weird idea that a celebrity has to donate money to a charity privately and if he or she makes any song and dance about it, he is somehow cheating and only doing it for selfish reasons, by getting some positive PR out of the gesture. Im sure that Russell, like myself and like most people would still donate to charities even if they were a window cleaner or a teacher or whatever-nice people do nice things (I know shocking isnt it?). Its obvious why he publicised this particular gesture and if you dont know why then google some of the key words in the story. Secondly, as any charity will tell you they WANT celebrities to publicise that they have donated to a charity. Thats why they become patrons and why theres Comic Relief and the Comedy Gala and Live Aid etc. A charity needs people to know about them more than one persons donation. Russell Brand told his 7.68 million followers this morning about the Justice for Hillsborough campaign. There is now definitely 7.68 million people who not only know about it, but also know that someone they really like and respect (irrespective of what you might think of the man, people do) has donated a considerable amount of money to this worthy cause. And who knows, they may have even donated themselves! I bet that most of the people having a pop at him havent donated anything at all and are just finding an excuse to have a pop at an easy target. If you dont find him funny or think he did it for positive PR then why dont you donate privately and dont tell any of your friends and family, here you go,Ive even put the link for you (now 648,407 people definitely know about this charity, Ill even donate myself to get the ball rolling!
