I recall a pivotal time in my lIfe. It was a carefree summer day in MD about 1963 and I was doing what I loved; playing on Rock Run Road with my best friend, Linda Martin and some of her 12 siblings. Mrs Spicer hollered out her door that a bus is coming by at 6 to take her to revival at Carsin Run Baptist Church and invited us. Entertainment was slim back in that day, though we made our own, so we collectively agreed to go. This required finding shoes and washing up. Away we went. Rev Shumaker was pastor. The evangelist pretty well preached hells fire and brimstone and put the fear of God in me. We rode the bus several nights. One night I accepted the invitation to receive Jesus as my Saviour. I went to the altar and cried asking for salvation. That night I recall stepping on the bus to head home and I felt so relieved that all my sins were forgiven and my soul was saved. Felt like weight was lifted from my shoulders. During that week Linda and some of her siblings also went forward. I wish I could say I was discipled and did things Gods way. No, it was years later before I totally surrendered. I said Lord, my way isnt working. Please take me and make of me what you will. I asked Linda about two years ago if she remembered that long ago revival and she affirmed. I look forward to meeting her again when I leave this world.
