I recently purchased a 14 watt portable Solar Charger (best to have more than one actually, Im on a redundancy kick!) Made by Accessory Power Inc. Its called the Solar Restore RA 4. Weird name really, I figured because its made in China, though it supposedly was designed in California. So far, Ive been quite pleased with it. Quality seems to be high, something I was was actually a little surprised with, to be honest, considering the price. Its actually pretty well made. Function seems great. First thing I did was use it to charge my Cel phone with a nearly empty battery. Even just laid flat in filtered sun, it charged my phone about as fast as the regular plug in wall charger does. It has two USB ports one charges at 2.1 amps per hour, the other port charges at 1.0 Amps. There is nothing in the pathetic and weak instructions that explains the different charge rates, but essentially, the first device you plug in either port gets the 2.1 Amps of sun juice So Id recommend plugging in the device with the larger battery first if you are gonna charge two devices. The instructions do recommend letting the charger sit in the sun for 30 seconds before plugging in a device or battery pack to be charged. The video review Ive posted along with my personal review is pretty decent. It does mention that its a little tricky propping the unit up for optimal efficiency, but since most folks with an I.Q. above that of a Racoon will be able to figure that out solution to that minor issue. Further, even though I had the device laying flat in filtered sun, it still had no problem charging my phone quickly. One thing I recommend, is getting a Male USB Female USB extension cord, so you can get the charger in the sun while placing the device youre charging in the shade. I find the suggestions of putting the device in the little pocket to be generally a less than stellar idea. I also have adapters so I can charge about any device, no matter what type of proprietary charging plug the device uses. Using a male USB to Male USB adapter, I was able to charge some of my 16340 3.7 volt batteries in the wall charger that has a USB port on the side, no problem. For the money, this really is a device everyone should have at least one of. youtube/watch?v=zO8ASqqJQl4
