I remember it like it was yesterday...it was a biography paper assignment in 3rd grade...write a paper about a great American. I remember being stumped with no idea who to write about so I went to Jeanine A Stewart who always helped me with my English assignments. Her first suggestion was Jackie Robinson, and the first thought of naive 3rd grade me was "I never heard of Jackie Robinson...what did she do?" My mom never told me, as she always did, she told me to pick up a book and find out for myself. From that day 17 (ish) years ago, Jackie Robinson has been one of the biggest inspirations in my life (as those that truly know me will testify)...all that being said the movie 42 came out on my 25th birthday, and today was, paradoxically, the first time that I watched. I wrote countless papers about Jackie Robinson throughout school (as my teachers will testify) so I knew the facts, but, nevertheless, 42 brought me to tears...real tears
