I remember those days! Operation Hold the Line single highhandedly - TopicsExpress

I remember those days! Operation Hold the Line single highhandedly destroyed downtown’s lively hood, walking down the streets of downtown seemed like one was walking in a ghost town. At the Silvas Supermarket or at Matas produce, I could recall people being scared to be out in the streets because of “las perreras!” People would say: “tengo miedo cada vez que salgo porque las perreras son muy bruscas, a todos detienen.” Before Operation Hold the Line, family members would come from Durango, Chihuahua, Coahuila…this gave us the opportunity to meet family members we didn’t know existed. Before the Operation Hold the Line, we had a small business inside of Rafa’s Bar on S. Stanton across from the Autozone, our small business involved tourism. Our changarro was going well because in our business there wasn’t many with the flexibility to move around freely like we could. Operation Hold the Line on the other hand helped our small business flourish; it forced us to move our changarro to Juarez. The article talks about migrants paying 25 cents to 50 cents to get on a lancha and cross, that was pre-Operation Hold the Line prices but post-Operation Hold the Line prices shot up drastically to 300 dollars to cross. Operation Hold The Line was the beginning of our operation, we should have named our operation, and called it Operation Underground.
